LABUAN, March 22 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM1.6 million for a packed food aid scheme to support the asnaf community in this duty-free island throughout 2025.
According to MAIWP Labuan manager Md Fadzli Md Saad, the annual scheme will provide a total of 144,000 food packs, distributing 600 packs daily for 20 days each month.
"This food distribution initiative, carried out by appointed food truck operators, aims to ensure that the asnaf community receives adequate daily sustenance," he said during the MAIWP Iftar ceremony with the asnaf community at Desa Tunas Hijau tonight.
The event also saw the participation of 720 asnaf individuals and their families.
Md Fadzli noted that the aid recipients are registered beneficiaries of the MAIWP Cost of Living Aid programme, which includes single mothers, senior citizens, and asnaf with several dependents.
In addition, 240 asnaf heads of families received food baskets worth a total of RM36,000, while 100 asnaf children were given festive duit raya cash contributions of RM50 each.
