MARANG, March 24 (Bernama) -- The Ihsan MADANI Licensed Release of Prisoners Programme (PBSL): Kepulangan Yang Dinanti has given 62 prisoners at Marang Prison a renewed sense of hope and a chance to start anew.
Expressing gratitude for being granted a second chance, an inmate known as Zaffran, 23, thanked Marang Prison and the Malaysian government for their immense goodwill.
The man, who was jailed last February for engaging in online fraud activities, confessed that he had repented and was now committed to earning a living through honest means.
“I got involved in scamming activities after being offered a lucrative payment by a syndicate late last year.
“At that time, I cheated more than 10 people, with the biggest loss reaching RM78,000. I really regret letting money tempt me into deceiving innocent people,” he said when met at the programme at Marang Prison today.
Zaffran said that besides scamming, he also held mule accounts and was paid RM3,000 a month
For Zuki, being able to observe fasting with his family in his hometown after his release from Marang Prison was something he was truly grateful for.
However, the 49-year-old, who was serving his second prison sentence for drug offences, was deeply saddened that he never got to see his late mother before she passed away in early March.
“My mother and I were very close...the last time I saw her was in December last year.
“I wasn’t given permission to go home when my mother passed away. So, the first thing I wanted to do after my release was visit her grave in Dungun,” he said.
Meanwhile, Marang Prison director Mohamad Jusoh Ismail said the department was targeting the release of 1,800 prisoners through the programme this year.
“This release programme also includes job placements. Nearly 100 per cent of the released prisoners have secured jobs under strict monitoring by the authorities,” he said.
