FIVE RETAILERS ISSUED COMPOUNDS FOR NOT DISPLAYING PRICE TAGS FOR CONTROLLED ITEMS

BATU PAHAT, March 25 (Bernama) -- Five retailers in Johor, who violated the Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025, were issued compounds for failing to display price tags for controlled items on the first day of its implementation yesterday.

Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) chief enforcement officer Mohd Fuzi Hadi Abd Latif said the five retailers were fined a total of RM500.

He said the action was to serve as a reminder to retailers, wholesalers and other traders to continue complying with the law, even if it seems trivial, so as not to cause doubt among consumers.

“Out of 55 retailers inspected in Johor yesterday, two traders in Segamat and Kota Tinggi, as well as one in Johor Bahru, were found not to have placed or displayed the pink price tags as stipulated in the SHMMP.

"Johor is the first state to record such an offence after the enforcement of the SHMMP for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025, which started yesterday and will continue until April 7," he told reporters after the launch of the SHMMP Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 at Target Supermarket in Bandar Parit Raja here today.

Meanwhile, he said there are 23 types of goods whose prices are controlled under this scheme in Johor, compared to a total of 26 types of goods, excluding imported beef, 'ikan tongkol' and 'ikan demudak'.

According to him, during the SHMMP Chinese New Year 2025, his team conducted 307 inspections involving wholesalers and retailers.

"There were a total of 123 cases with a compound value of RM13,300 involving various offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011."

"Failure to display a pink price tag on controlled price items is the most frequent offence," he added.
