STABLE COOKING OIL SUPPLY IN KELANTAN DESPITE INCREASED DEMAND AHEAD OF AIDILFITRI

26/03/2025 10:05 PM

KOTA BHARU, March 26 (Bernama) -- The supply of packaged cooking oil in Kelantan remains stable, despite increased demand throughout Ramadan and as Aidilfitri approaches, said Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director, Azman Ismail.

He said that any reported shortages by consumers were only temporary, occurring at specific times, and overall, cooking oil is still available in the state.

"Packaged cooking oil is supplied every morning to 97 business premises across the state, meeting 80 per cent of the total demand. However, the supply can run out by the evening before the new stock arrives the following day.

"The high demand is due to increased usage during Ramadan and the existence of Ramadan bazaars, which attract large crowds," he told reporters after the Kelantan KPDN's breaking fast event today.

Azman added that KPDN would continue to monitor and take appropriate steps to ensure the stability of the cooking oil supply.

He added that the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme organised by KPDN in Kelantan continues to receive strong support, with sales from the programme reaching RM22.14 million, involving a government subsidy of RM1.53 million to ensure essential goods remain affordable.

Azman said the programme, held in conjunction with Ramadan and the festive season, covers 14 constituencies and 45 state legislative assemblies, allowing consumers to purchase basic goods such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, chicken, eggs, and other necessities at lower prices, with discounts ranging from 10 to 30 per cent compared to market prices.
