SHAH ALAM, March 27 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has spent nearly RM35.3 million during this year’s Ramadan to support the Selangor community, particularly the underprivileged.
State executive councillor for Islamic Affairs and Innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the amount covered aid for 75,207 asnaf and the poor, mosque infrastructure repairs and programmes to enliven mosques across the state.
“This month, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) also organised the Ihya’ Ramadan Iftar Ceremony with the Sultan of Selangor and the Presentation of Hari Raya Contributions at 13 selected mosques in the state.
“This event aimed to bring the Selangor leadership closer to the people and foster closer relationships among state civil servants. The Sultan of Selangor also officiated the opening of seven new mosques during the ceremony,” he said in a statement today.
Mohamad Fahmi said the Permanent Committee on Islamic Affairs organised the Kembara Masjid Selangor 2025 (KEMAS) programme at nine selected mosques in Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Petaling.
He said the programme not only aimed to encourage youth to perform congregational prayers at mosques but also to assess the actual conditions of mosques and religious schools in Selangor.
“In addition to public programmes such as iftar, tarawih prayers, community tadarus and grand qiyamulail, the Selangor Iktikaf Programme was held in collaboration with IKRAM Selangor.
“This iktikaf programme included religious talks, children’s activities, congregational prayers, iftar, tarawih and qiyamulail sessions involving families, youth and local mosque committee members at 20 selected mosques in the Petaling district,” he said.
Mohammad Fahmi said the Ramadan programmes reflect the continuous commitment of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, JAIS and the state government to uphold Islamic values and ensure the welfare of Muslims in Selangor.
