TRAFFIC HEAVY ALONG JALAN GUA MUSANG- KUALA LIPIS AS NUMBER OF VEHICLES RISE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) -- Traffic along several federal roads in Gua Musang, Kelantan are reported to be heavy as the number of vehicles from Kuala Lumpur rise as of 10 pm.

Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said congestion at the Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis border has exceeded 10 kilometres, twice that of this morning.

"Traffic is slow moving and we expect the number of vehicles to continue to rise from midnight till early next morning,” he said, adding that they were conducting dispersals at regular intervals and personnel were on duty in turns to ensure traffic was moving in a controlled fashion.

Meanwhile in TERENGGANU, traffic along two major routes in Jertih district, connecting Terengganu and Kelantan, has risen since this evening, Besut district police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad@Abu said, noting that the situation at both the Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu route in Jertih and Kampung Raja were still smooth and under control even with the additional vehicles since 4 pm.

“As an alternative to reduce congestion, the police have added one more lane from the direction of Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu starting from Jertih town till the front of the Jertih police station, with a distance of almost a kilometre.

“This makes the route from Kuala Terengganu to Kelantan into two lanes, while the opposite lane will have only one lane,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

He added that 40 police officers and personnel from the Besut district police headquarters were assigned to Op Selamat 24.
