BATU PAHAT, March 31 (Bernama) -- The residents of Kampung Mohd Noor, Batu 5, here, continue their long-standing tradition of sharing home-cooked dishes with the worshippers at the mosque after performing the Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayer.

Masjid Jamek Kampung Mohd Noor chairman Mohd Fauzi Mohamad Sedek said this has been a way for the village to celebrate Aidilfitri for over 50 years.

He said that this tradition also allows residents to strengthen their bonds, exchange forgiveness, reconnect with family members working or living away from home, and return for the festive season.

"Since our village only carries out the 'baraan' (house-to-house visits) activity a week after Hari Raya, this is how we celebrate the arrival of 1 Syawal each year before everyone continues their celebrations with their respective families.

"The joy comes from sharing the various dishes that each household prepares. During Ramadan, we have the 'munjung' tradition (exchanging food), and today we continue it for Hari Raya," he told Bernama  here today.

Mohd Fauzi said that various traditional Aidilfitri dishes are shared, including ketupat, rendang, lemang, nasi impit, serunding and even festive cookies.

He said the tradition has been preserved due to strong support from the village chief and over 100 families in the area.

"If we count those attending the mosque for the Aidilfitri prayers, including those returning from outside the village, there are around 300 people, and we all sit and eat together," he also said.

He added that if this tradition continues to receive support and serves as a platform to strengthen relationships among residents, it will be preserved, especially for the younger generation to inherit.

Earlier, after performing the Aidilfitri prayer, the villagers held a brief 'tahlil' (prayer recitation) and 'doa selamat' (thanksgiving prayer) before enjoying the home-cooked meals brought from their respective homes.
