OVER 30,000 SQUARE METRES OF POTHOLES IN KELANTAN REPAIRED

KOTA BHARU, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (JKR) has repaired over 31,180 square metres of potholes on federal and state roads in Kelantan since January.

State JKR director Nik Soh Yaacoub said of the total, 21,580 square metres involved federal roads, while 9,600 square metres covered state roads.

"When we receive reports regarding potholes, we respond immediately and carry out repairs within 24 hours to prevent any untoward incidents," he told Bernama today.

Previously, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi issued a stern warning to all road maintenance concessionaires, urging them to fulfil their responsibilities and prevent further fatal accidents. He cited the tragic incident on March 21, in which two siblings lost their lives on Jalan Sengkang-Felda Inas-Bandar Tenggara in Johor.

Nanta said that under JKR’s asset maintenance policy, the appointed federal road concessionaire must carry out temporary patching within a day if road damage occurs, while permanent repairs must be completed within three days.

However, he added that large-scale repairs require prior budget approval, which can be done annually and in phases.
