KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims seeking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah has increased as of 8 am today, while Johor recorded a decline.

In SABAH, 875 individuals from 254 families are currently housed at 10 PPS, up from 687 people involving 191 families yesterday evening.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, Beaufort and Keningau became the latest districts to be affected this morning, joining Nabawan and Sook, which were already hit earlier.

Nabawan registered the highest number of evacuees with 467 people from 119 families across six PPS, followed by Sook with 232 evacuees from 77 families at two centres.

Beaufort recorded 108 individuals from 40 families, and Keningau reported 68 evacuees from 18 families, each placed at one PPS.

“A total of 40 villages have been affected by the floods, namely 30 in Nabawan, six in Beaufort, and two each in Sook and Keningau,” it said in a statement.

In JOHOR, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 148 from 48 families this morning, compared to 163 individuals from 52 families yesterday evening.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said only the Batu Pahat district remains affected, with one PPS still operating at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Gading.

He said the evacuees are from five villages, namely Kampung Baharu Sri Gading, Kampung Parit Bengkok, Kampung Parit Kaspan, Kampung Parit Samion and Kampung Parit Samijan.

He added that two rivers in Batu Pahat -- Sungai Senggarang and Sungai Batu Pahat -- remain at alert level, with respective water levels of 3.10 metres and 2.30 metres.

“As of 8 am, all districts reported fair weather with no thunderstorm warnings issued,” he said in a statement.
