KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), the largest private quaternary hospital in Malaysia, was once again honoured with the prestigious Hospital of the Year (Malaysia) Award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025.
The award marked an unprecedented fourth consecutive year of recognition for SMC, which was home to 28 Centres of Excellence and more than 60 specialities.
In a statement, SMC, the flagship hospital of Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG), said the achievement underscored its steadfast commitment to innovation, excellence in healthcare delivery, and significant contributions to the community.
"The Healthcare Asia Awards was a prestigious programme dedicated to recognising outstanding hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organisations across Asia that demonstrated exceptional innovation, set new benchmarks in healthcare excellence, and made significant contributions to their communities," it said.
Meanwhile, SMC Chief Executive Officer Dr Seow Vei Ken expressed his gratitude and pride that SMC was awarded the title for four consecutive years, stating that it is a testament to the relentless dedication and passion of its team, who consistently went above and beyond to deliver exceptional patient care.
"Being recognised by such a distinguished platform not only reflected our achievements but also reinforced our enduring commitment to advancing healthcare standards.
"As we celebrated this milestone, we remained focused on our mission to innovate, inspire, and provide world-class healthcare services to our community in Asia and beyond," he added.
The announcement came after SMC’s recent honours, including ranking first in Malaysia under the Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list and securing a spot in the Top 250 Hospitals globally for the second consecutive year.
The hospital was also listed in Newsweek’s Asia’s Top Private Hospitals 2025, earning a Top 3 position in Ophthalmology and a Top 10 spot in Orthopaedics, as well as being featured in Newsweek’s Best Specialist Hospitals Asia Pacific rankings for 2023 and 2024.
Established in 1999 with a single tower, SMC was the first in Malaysia and Southeast Asia (SEA) to introduce the AiBLE™ Spine Surgical Suite, the latest robotic-guided technology designed to revolutionise spine surgery with precision and efficiency.
SMC also entered the Malaysia Book of Records, setting two records - the first surgeon to perform robotic-assisted total hip replacement surgery and the most robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgeries (1,000 procedures).
Additionally, the hospital became the first in the country to obtain three major hospital-wide accreditations namely Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation (USA), the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
