LABUAN, April 17 (Bernama) -- The much-anticipated Labuan International Sea Challenge (LISC) 2025 is making a grand return from April 22 to 27, offering a total prize pool of RM350,000 and drawing participation from more than 2,500 local and international sea sports enthusiasts.
Organised by Labuan Corporation (LC), in collaboration with various sports organisations and relevant government agencies, the 27th edition of this prestigious maritime event is expected to draw over 15,000 visitors to the duty-free island throughout the six-day spectacle.
In a statement today, LC said the LISC 2025 will feature 12 exciting competitions, comprising four main events and eight supporting events, each designed to highlight Labuan’s rich maritime culture and sporting spirit.
The four main highlights of the challenge include the International Deep Sea Fishing Tournament, Mini Kayak Marathon, Labuan Round Island Kayak Challenge and Regatta Race 2.0.
These flagship events are expected to attract professional and amateur competitors from across Malaysia as well as from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Poland, Brazil, the Philippines, and the United States.
The International Deep Sea Fishing Tournament, which remains the signature event since the inception of the challenge, is set to flag off on April 22.
It will offer RM80,000 in cash prizes alongside RM100,000 worth of premium DAIWA fishing gear, making it one of the most lucrative fishing contests in the Borneo region.
LC said the event not only serves as a platform to boost tourism and promote healthy lifestyle activities but also fosters international camaraderie through sea sports.
“With the return of the Labuan International Sea Challenge this year, we are thrilled to welcome athletes, adventurers, and visitors from around the globe to experience the unique sea sports environment that Labuan has to offer,” the statement said.
LC added that the event also underscores Labuan’s strategic location as a hub for ecotourism and sports tourism in the region, further reinforcing its position on the global sea sports calendar.
