PAHANG STATE ASSEMBLY EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO TUN ABDULLAH'S FAMILY

KUANTAN, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Pahang State Assembly today conveyed its condolences to the family of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who died last Monday.

State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin, expressing sadness over Abdullah’s death, said under his administration, the country witnessed the implementation of various important initiatives such as Islam Hadari and the establishment of the Judicial Appointments Commission. 

"He steered the transformation of Malaysia...Tun Abdullah's services and contributions will always be remembered by the people of the country, regardless of political background," he said during the State Assembly sitting here today.

Abdullah died at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at 7.10 pm.

Born on Nov 26, 1939, in Bayan Lepas, Penang, Abdullah, who was the MP for Kepala Batas, became Prime Minister from Oct 31, 2003, to April 3, 2009, following the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
