BATU PAHAT, April 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 3,802 pilgrims from Johor are scheduled to perform the Haj pilgrimage this year, said the State Islamic Affairs Committee Chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

He said they will leave for the Holy Land in stages with the first flight expected to depart on May 14 from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Mohd Fared, who is Semerah Assemblyman, said the pilgrims include 500 from the Johor Government Delegation (RKJ), comprising state government civil servants and retirees.

“I was informed that 5,000 people were offered by Tabung Haji (TH), but only 3,802 are accepted. The rest did not meet the criteria because of, among others,  failing the health screening.

“My gratitude to TH for helping to manage the pilgrims from Johor,” he told reporters after the Semerah State Constituency Aidilfitri Open House here, last night.

Regarding this year’s zakat fitrah (personal tithe) collection, he said it amounted to RM29 million, which exceeded the target and showed an increase of RM2 million compared to last year.
