ASTAKA MADANI RECREATIONAL PARK IN SITIAWAN STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION - MPM

IPOH, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) has clarified that the Astaka MADANI Recreational Park in Sitiawan, which was allegedly abandoned, is still under construction and has not been handed over to them.

In a statement today, MPM said the project’s handover is scheduled for May 13, and it remains closed to the public.

“Although physical works are nearly completed, the contractor is working on improvements and cleaning tasks as specified in the project’s scope.

“For safety reasons, the site has been cordoned off with warning tape to restrict public access during construction. However, there have been instances of trespassing,” it said.

The council added that such trespassing has caused misunderstandings about the park being abandoned, despite it still being under the council’s supervision and monitoring.

MPM’s response came after a column in a local daily published a reader’s concern over construction debris and the presence of children at the site, which raised safety issues.

“We would like to correct the misunderstanding and inaccurate perception published in a local newspaper recently. The park is still under construction.

“As for the complaints about debris, the contractor has cleaned the site and removed all waste on the same day the complaint was published,” the statement added.

MPM stressed that it will ensure all works are fully completed before the contractor hands over the project, adding that the park will be opened to the public only after it is deemed safe and fully ready for use.
