HAWANA 2025 MAIN EVENT TO BE HELD ON JUNE 14 AT WTCKL

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- The highlight of the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 celebration will be held on June 14 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), says Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

She said the event, to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was expected to draw around 1,000 media practitioners from local and international organisations.

“We are targeting 1,000 attendees this time because we are holding it in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and we expect all media outlets to be able to attend, unlike previous editions held in various states, which may have made it difficult for some to join.

“We are also inviting media colleagues from ASEAN countries in conjunction with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN chair this year,” she told reporters after chairing the HAWANA 2025 Coordination Meeting at Wisma Bernama here today.

Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief and HAWANA 2025 Project Director Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz.

The meeting was also attended virtually by top management from local media organisations, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro Awani, Malaysia Gazette, Media Prima, Sarawak Tribune and Kupi-Kupi FM.

Nur-ul Afida said HAWANA, organised by the Ministry of Communications through Bernama as the implementing agency, would feature several events, including a pre-launch ceremony with strategic partners at Wisma Bernama on June 3, a media forum co-organised with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) on June 14, and a ‘pantun’ recital event in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) on May 31.

In addition, she said a HAWANA carnival and exhibition would be held at Sunway Putra Mall here on June 13 and 14, which would include a media sports carnival featuring traditional sports, besides roadshow visits to premier polytechnics in Selangor, Perak, and Johor.

As the implementing agency entrusted with organising HAWANA for the fifth time, Nur-ul Afida said Bernama would mobilise resources from across its departments to ensure the successful execution of the event, further strengthening its role in recognising and celebrating the contributions of journalists and media practitioners in Malaysia.

HAWANA, held for the first time in 2018, is an annual event that gathers media professionals to acknowledge their role and contributions to the nation’s development.
