ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, has expressed pride in Johor’s emergence as a new economic powerhouse in the country.

His Royal Highness said the achievement was driven by several key initiatives, such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which attracted investments totalling RM27 billion in the first quarter of this year.

“I am pleased to see these achievements and proud that Johor is now said to have emerged as a new economic powerhouse in Malaysia.

“I believe that with the current economic growth trend, the people of Johor will enjoy a better quality of life in the future,” Tunku Mahkota Ismail said.

His Royal Highness said this when opening the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly today.

Tunku Mahkota Ismail added that in 2024, Johor recorded revenues totalling RM2.1 billion, and this strong performance continued into the first quarter of 2025, with the state registering RM598 million in revenue, 29.84 per cent higher than the projection set by the state government.

“In April 2025, with strong support and cooperation from all parties and the state government, new projects worth RM23 billion were planned,” His Royal Highness said.
