BUDI95: LMM HOLDERS WITH OLD IC NUMBERS, RETIRED PERSONNEL URGED TO UPDATE INFO AT JPJ

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysians holding driving licences (LMM) with old identity card numbers and retired police or military personnel still using the Service Driving Licence are urged to update their records at Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters to ensure eligibility for the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said checks found about 150,000 of nearly 17 million eligible recipients had yet to update their LMM details, mainly because they had not provided new MyKad numbers.

“A small group of licence holders do not use the 12-digit IC format. In the past, JPJ licence applications allowed various identification numbers, not necessarily MyKad.

“The problem arises if they do not update their MyKad number, as the BUDI95 system cannot detect or verify their eligibility as citizens,” he told a press conference on the initiative here today.

He said that retired personnel must also update their details, as the special driving licence was only valid during their service.

Loke said MOT and JPJ are committed to assisting the public, adding that updates must be done in person for thumbprint verification.

“Retired personnel who have not converted their service driving licence to LMM should do so immediately to avoid problems and enable them to enjoy BUDI95 benefits,” he said.

He added that LMM holders whose IC numbers contained errors or triggered red flags were also required to present themselves at the nearest JPJ counter for confirmation.

“The updated data will then be forwarded to the Finance Ministry for verification with the National Registration Department. If no red flags are raised, the information will be updated directly in the BUDI95 system,” he said.

Loke said LMM renewal applications have risen to about 27,000 per day since the BUDI95 announcement, compared to the previous daily average of 17,000.

Meanwhile, the minister said the government had agreed to extend BUDI95 benefits to Malaysians holding Singapore driving licences.

“JPJ is developing an online registration system, which will take one or two weeks to complete before we make an announcement.

“I appeal to Malaysians with Singapore licences to be patient for a few weeks. They will not be able to enjoy BUDI95 during this period, but we will resolve the matter quickly,” he said.
