JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Membrane technology research specialist Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, who is also the former vice-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has won the 2025 National Technologist Award.
Ahmad Fauzi, who is also the founder of a world-class research centre in membrane technologies - Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) - received the award in conjunction with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) Experts Network in Technology, Innovation and Cooperative Event, organised by MBOT, today.
UTM said the award is in recognition of his achievement in pioneering the research, innovation and commercialisation of membrane technologies, covering water treatment, water desalination, gas separation and sustainable energy.
"He is a prominent UTM alumnus who always upholds the university's name on the international stage and the recognition enhances his position as one of the country's influential technologists beyond international borders through academic leadership, research excellence and guidance of a new generation of scientists and engineers,” UTM said in a statement today.
The award was presented by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Fauzi said in the same statement that the award is not just an endorsement of his journey as a researcher and academic, but also an appreciation for the joint efforts of a team of researchers, students and industry who believed in the potential of membrane technology.
The academician earned a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering (B.Eng) and a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (MSc) from UTM in 1989 and 1992, before pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
