BUTTERWORTH, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Penang branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is conducting strict monitoring at petrol stations across the state to ensure the smooth implementation of the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme.
Its director, S. Jegan, said that the monitoring was important to ensure the BUDI95 system functioned according to guidelines and to prevent any manipulation or abuse of subsidies.
“BUDI95 is implemented to ensure that the RON95 petrol subsidy reaches eligible Malaysians. Therefore, monitoring at petrol stations is important to prevent any leakage,” he said after inspecting a petrol station here today.
He said that all transactions conducted via the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) and BUDI95 were digitally recorded, allowing for more transparent enforcement.
“We have to ensure that MyKad is used by the rightful owner and that foreign vehicles only fill up with RON97 petrol. For companies, purchases of subsidised petrol must be made using an approved fleet card,” he said.
According to Jegan, 15 petrol stations had been inspected so far, and all transactions had gone smoothly without any disruption.
“From the inspection, we only received one technical complaint, which was caused by the user’s error during the petrol filling process and not a system issue, and it was resolved immediately according to the set procedure.
“Users who are unfamiliar (with the BUDI95 procedure) can ask for help from the petrol station staff. While first-time use may feel a bit confusing, the system is actually very easy,” he said.
According to Jegan, monitoring would be conducted continuously, and strict action would be taken against anyone found misusing, manipulating, or smuggling RON95 petrol under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
