KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Astro have made history by jointly organising a special concert in conjunction with this year’s Deepavali celebration.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the concert, themed “Titikkum Deepavali Kondattam”, marks a significant milestone that demonstrates strong collaboration between the public and private broadcasting sectors, featuring a line-up of local artistes.
“This is a very positive effort as we see two major organisations -- one from the government and another from the private sector -- joining hands to produce a concert that showcases local talents while celebrating culture and community.
“I hope it will be a meaningful gift for everyone celebrating Deepavali,” she told a press conference here today, with Astro’s vice president of Indian Customer Business Prem Anand also present.
Teo said the concert was recorded on Sept 20 at Auditorium Seri Angkasa, Angkasapuri, and will be aired simultaneously on RTM’s TV2 and Astro Vinmeen (Channel 202) on Oct 21 at 9 pm.
The concert will feature 70 local talents, including singers and dancers, with performances by popular names such as Darkkey, Balan Kash, Santesh and Zubir Khan, along with a special appearance by renowned Indian singer Srinivas.
The collaboration will also see radio presenters from Tamil-language stations Raaga and Minnal FM sharing the same stage for the first time.
“Such collaborations highlight the importance of sharing resources and expertise to improve the quality of local productions.
“The media is our partner. Sometimes we compete on who breaks the news first, but there are also times when we can share resources to create something greater for the audience,” she said.
Teo added that similar collaborations could be expanded into other areas or programmes, including sports.
“I believe there are many more opportunities ahead. If something fits, we can always sit down and discuss it,” she said.
