BATU PAHAT, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is committed to supporting the Johor government in producing a highly skilled workforce in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Its vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mas Fawzi Mohd Ali said the initiative is in line with the state’s aspiration to develop a competitive, inclusive, and globally resilient human capital.

“Every year, more than 1,000 UTHM students successfully complete their studies, most of whom come from a TVET-based education background. They are not only equipped with strong academic knowledge but are also prepared to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the era of global digitalisation.

“Education today is no longer confined to what is written in books, but must create meaning, value, and positive impact for society,” he said when officiating the 4th Johor Education Seminar (SPJ-IV) at the Sultan Ibrahim Hall, UTHM, here today.

He said UTHM is also committed to strengthening TVET to ensure it is no longer viewed as a second option, but recognised as a mainstream pathway for human capital development in the country.

Mas Fawzi said the seminar, themed ‘Pendidikan Untuk Kesejahteraan Sosial: Menginspirasikan Inovasi dan Kepimpinan di Era Malaysia MADANI’ serves as a platform for intellectuals, educators, students, and policymakers to exchange ideas and strengthen networks of expertise.

“Our focus is not only on producing a skilled workforce but also on encouraging all parties to view education, including TVET, as a shared responsibility - one that requires collaboration and the courage to explore new approaches,” he said.

He added that knowledge acts as a bridge to social well-being and urged all participants to continue driving the knowledge agenda at both the state and national levels.

The two-day seminar, which runs until tomorrow, is organised by the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTV) of UTHM in collaboration with the Johor Education Department, and targets the participation of more than 1,000 students and educators.
