KOTA BHARU, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has confirmed that religious school Madrasah Ahbabul Mustafa Al-Islamiah in Tumpat, which has been linked to a case involving a ‘mudir’ (headmaster) accused of sexually assaulting three male students, is operating without being registered with the council.
MAIK deputy president Datuk Mohd Anis Hussein said that the madrasah had never submitted an application for registration as a school or religious institution, as stipulated under Subsection 96(1) of the Kelantan Council of Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Enactment No. 4 of 1994.
“MAIK has coordinated with the relevant authorities to take appropriate enforcement action against the madrasah immediately,” he said in a statement, today.
The media previously reported that a headmaster of a religious school faced 15 counts of physical sexual assault, involving three male students, aged 14 and 16, at the Pasir Mas and Kuala Terengganu Sessions Courts in September.
