In a statement today, AFA PRIME said that in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration on Oct 20, traffic heading towards Pahang and the East Coast is expected to peak between Oct 17 and 19, while the return flow westwards to Kuala Lumpur is expected between Oct 20 and 22.

“During this period, daily traffic on KLK is expected to increase by 59 per cent from an average of 110,000 to 175,000 vehicles.

“Meanwhile, traffic on LPT1 is expected to increase by 67 per cent from 41,000 to 68,300 vehicles per day,” according to the statement.

According to AFA PRIME, Highway Police Patrol units will be stationed at Gombak, Temerloh and Kuantan to ensure smooth traffic flow, while Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers will be on standby at several weighbridges in Gombak, Karak, Temerloh, Maran and Kuantan.

“RELA members will be stationed at the Rest and Recreation (R&R) areas and laybys to provide on-site assistance 24 hours a day throughout the emergency period,” it said.

Meanwhile,  AFA PRIME General Manager and Head Ibrahim Tambi Cik Mohamad, in the same statement, called on all road users to drive carefully and plan their journeys so that everyone can return home to enjoy the warmth and joy of this festive season.

"As more Malaysians travel to celebrate this celebration, our teams will be fully prepared to ensure every journey is safe, smooth and well-managed," he said.
