JUNIOR SUPERHERO SSPN CONTINUES EDUCATION SAVINGS MISSION IN PAHANG

17/10/2025 08:42 PM

KUANTAN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Junior Superhero SSPN Savings Programme is an initiative by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) designed to nurture a culture of saving from an early age.

PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said that through this corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative held in conjunction with World Savings Day, PTPTN is contributing a total of RM10,000 to 50 newborns this month.

“This contribution includes the opening of a Simpan SSPN Prime account or savings addition to the account worth RM100, together with a baby gift hamper valued at RM100 for each recipient,” she told reporters at the programme held at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here today.

Also in attendance were Pahang National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) director Nurfarhana Lee Mohd Zulkiflee Lee, HTAA deputy director of management Boniface Basin Nyirob, PTPTN senior general manager Wan Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar, and Pahang PTPTN director Sapiza Ajuhari.

She said the programme was organised in collaboration with the Pahang Health Department and HTAA, adding that PTPTN has also established a strategic partnership with the state government through the Permata Makmur initiative, which was introduced last year.

Norliza said the Permata Makmur programme is a state government initiative that provides a one-off assistance of RM300 to Malaysian newborns born in Pahang, comprising RM250 credited into a newly opened or existing Simpan SSPN Prime account, and RM50 in the form of baby care essentials.

From January 2024 to Oct 1 this year, a total of 11,853 newborns have benefited from the incentive, with RM2.96 million channelled through Simpan SSPN Prime accounts.

“For this year, the state government has allocated about RM6 million for the programme. Hence, I urge mothers in Pahang to take advantage of the Permata Makmur Programme. Simpan SSPN offers numerous benefits, including income tax relief of up to RM8,000.

“I strongly encourage parents to start saving early, as the cost of education is expected to keep rising each year. We hope these savings will serve as an advantage, ensuring that when their children pursue higher education, they will not need to rely on other sources of funding,” said Norliza.

Meanwhile, 41-year-old civil servant and mother of four, Fatimah Mohamed, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and meaningful effort that helps parents make early preparations for their children’s education.

“With a scheme like this, we can start saving right from the beginning. Even a newborn can have an account, which is truly beneficial for their future,” said Fatimah, who gave birth to a baby boy at HTAA three days ago.

Since its launch in 2004 up to Sept 30, 2025, Simpan SSPN has accumulated deposits totalling RM22.47 billion, with 7.16 million accounts opened.
