KLEBANG AREA SET TO DRIVE MELAKA'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – AB RAUF

17/10/2025 09:50 PM

MELAKA, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The Klebang area is seen as a key driver for Melaka's new economic development through a series of strategic projects planned by the state government, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said the coastal area has been identified as a focus zone for new economic growth, aiming to develop the port, tourism, industrial, and modern housing sectors under the Blue Economy concept, which is currently in the planning stages.

"The integrated development in this area will position Klebang as a major contributor to the state's economic growth, bringing significant benefits to the local community.

"Once fully developed, Klebang has the potential to become a new growth centre that will elevate Melaka’s economy, establishing it as one of the key pillars of the state's development," he told reporters here today.

He earlier officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Stulang Daeng Pulau Gadong Bridge, part of the Klebang Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme, with Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong also present.

Ab Rauf further highlighted that the state government’s efforts to strengthen development in the region are also supported by over 100 community programmes under the WRUR initiative. These programmes focus on engaging the community and addressing local issues.

“To date, we have implemented 106 initiatives aimed at improving welfare, education, infrastructure, and the well-being of the people.

"Any concerns from residents will be reviewed and addressed quickly. Simple issues will be solved within two weeks, while more complex ones will be further examined for the best solution," he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has allocated RM9.4 million for the construction of a new Stulang Daeng-Pulau Gadong Bridge, replacing the previous bridge that collapsed in September 2023.

Ab Rauf said the construction of the new 70-metre-long bridge also includes the building of a new 400-metre road to enhance the comfort and safety of users, with construction having started after the site handover on Oct 3, and is expected to be completed by Sept 30, 2027.

At the same time, he said the state government is also focusing on the development of public infrastructure, including the reconstruction of the Batang Tiga New Market, which will be renamed Klebang Regional Market, modernised, and made more comfortable for traders and visitors.

This project is expected to provide ample parking spaces and conducive trading spaces, in line with efforts to elevate the economic status of local traders and strengthen the community's business networks.
