KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) plans to establish seven additional Building Information Modelling (BIM) satellite laboratories nationwide next year, expanding training access for local contractors.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said at present, such facilities are only available in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
“CIDB, not the Works Ministry, leads this initiative, but the labs will be equipped with computers and BIM software for use by players in the construction industry, including local contractors.
“However, the establishment of the labs will also take into account levy collection and project needs in each state,” he told a press conference after officiating the 11th CIDB CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia 2025 here today.
On the recent landslide incident in Penang, Ahmad said the ministry has instructed the district engineer, the State Public Works Department (JKR) and JKR’s Slope Engineering Branch (CKC) in Kuala Lumpur to take immediate follow-up action.
He said this includes carrying out clean-up work at the site in Balik Pulau, but the affected road remains closed due to concerns of a possible recurrence.
“We found that the soil movement could still occur, so the road remains closed for now. Continuous monitoring and preventive works are being carried out on other high-risk slopes as well, as there are about 3,000 such sites nationwide,” he said.
