SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) will continue to enhance its dakwah (Islamic propagation) and tarbiah (holistic nurturing) initiatives in the state through the implementation of the new Modul Pengukuhan dan Profesionalisme Pemegang Tauliah Mengajar Negeri Selangor starting next year.
MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the module serves as a strategic guide to enhance the quality, integrity and professionalism of teaching credential holders with emphasis on aspects of aqidah, fiqh, tasawuf, current deviant teachings, Quranic skills and the latest credential regulations.
“There are several credential holders who teach beyond the scope of their approved category, for instance, M2-B holders are authorised to teach only the basics of iqra’, but some have delivered pengajian berkitab lessons specific to the M1 category.
“What is more concerning is the inclination of a few credential holders towards beliefs that go against the manhaj (school) of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah,” he said when speaking at the Selangor State Teaching Credential Holders’ Ijtimak 2025 at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here today.
He said such actions not only tarnish the image of dakwah and undermine public confidence in religious institutions but can also lead to the suspension or revocation of teaching credentials.
Salehuddin added that all credential holders must maintain discipline, uphold good morals and adhere to the rules set to ensure that the noble responsibility of imparting knowledge is preserved and respected.
“Recently, I was informed of a preacher with no involvement in the issue of Palestine who spoke about how the Selangor government, MAIS and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) were not concerned about matters relating to Palestine.
“If the person is an expert in the history or colonisation of Palestine, we will allow it. We try to avoid such situations because they can create confusion among the public, since what is said may not always be accurate,” he said.
Salehuddin said the launch of the module was also in line with the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, which emphasised that the issuance of credentials to teach, deliver lectures and religious talks in the state must be carried out with greater care and through strict screening.
“His Royal Highness urged credential holders to be knowledgeable, disciplined and trustworthy, while reminding them not to misuse the dakwah platform for personal gain or to spread deviant teachings.
“Adherence to this decree forms the basis of unity, prosperity and the credibility of Islamic dakwah in Selangor,” he said.
Salehuddin said that to date, a total of 5,572 individuals have been certified as Selangor State Credential Holders, with the number continuing to increase following the introduction of the e-Tauliah digital system, which allows applications to be submitted easily, transparently and efficiently.
Earlier, Salehuddin, accompanied by Selangor Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, who is also the MAIS Credential Committee chairman; Islamic Religious and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah; and Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, officiated the launch of the new module.
