PUTRAJAYA, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Courses on cyber crime enforcement, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of enforcement officers in areas such as investigation, digital evidence collection, case management, and enforcement implementation, are aligned with existing legal provisions.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in a statement today, said  Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officiated the course, to be organised in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), during the closing ceremony of the Inter-Agency Retreat on Cyber Crimes 2025 held in Melaka, today.

It said Fahmi, in his speech, expressed the government's continued commitment to strengthening the country's preparedness to face the increasingly complex and cross-border cybercrime threat.

According to MCMC, the courses were a continuation of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on March 11, 2024, which focuses on capacity development related to investigation and enforcement.

“The collaboration between MCMC and PDRM also includes Op Pedo 1 (December  2024), Op Pancing (September  2025) and Op Pedo 2 (September 2025)," read the statement.

It said the course, which will be conducted starting next year, focuses on standardised training modules for enforcement officers from various government agencies, with the involvement of experts from multiple national-level cybercrime and security agencies.

“This initiative is expected to establish an integrated and responsive enforcement force capable of addressing cyber threats in the country,” read the statement.

In the same statement, MCMC revealed that the average cost of data breaches in the region last year was estimated to exceed US$3 million (approximately RM12.7 million), while fraud-related losses in Asia reached US$688.4 billion (approximately RM2.91 trillion), with one in two citizens falling victim to fraud every month.

In Malaysia, since 2022, MCMC has blocked 2.2 billion suspicious calls and 2.2 billion unsolicited short messaging systems (SMS), terminated 185,499 suspicious SMS lines and submitted 12,001 applications for the removal of investment fraud content.
