KELANTAN POLICE STAGE TERROR THREAT DRILL AT SULTAN ISMAIL PETRA POWER STATION

30/10/2025 06:41 PM

JELI, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Sultan Ismail Petra Power Station in Pergau, here, became a security testing ground as Kelantan police conducted their first-ever terrorist threat simulation involving more than 200 personnel from various agencies.

The exercise involved cooperation between the police, fire department, civil defence force, and other ministries to ensure maximum preparedness against any threat to the critical facility that generates nearly 600 MW of power for Peninsular Malaysia.

Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the power station is not merely an energy facility but the heartbeat of the nation’s electricity generation, and any threat or sabotage could jeopardise the economy, stability, and public safety.

“The training emphasises preparedness at ground level so that every officer and personnel are ready should a real threat occur,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the simulation exercise at the power station today.

The three-day simulation featured armed threats, hostage incidents, IED explosions, and high-profile negotiation operations, with participation from the Tiger Platoon, bomb disposal unit, intelligence division, and crisis negotiators.

Throughout the exercise, the Crisis Response Team (CRT) at the Jeli Police headquarters was activated to handle potential terrorist or criminal threats.

He said the exercise was conducted in accordance with the Director of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNK) Directive No. 53, which outlines the standard operating procedures for activating police response teams at the district level to manage limited-scale internal security threats.
