30/10/2025 07:54 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, held in the federal capital from Oct 26 to 28, went smoothly without any security incidents, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the success reflected the high level of preparedness of all security agencies involved, particularly the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), which played key roles before, during and after the event.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to the police and Immigration Department for their strong commitment and significant contributions to Malaysia’s success in hosting the ASEAN Summit.

“There were virtually no security disturbances throughout the period when Malaysia hosted 23 heads of state here,” he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill (Budget) 2026 for the Home Ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Earlier, Saifuddin Nasution said 10,492 PDRM and 3,000 JIM personnel were deployed during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits to ensure high security readiness and smooth operations at the country’s entry points.

The three-day summit achieved several milestones, including Timor-Leste’s participation as the 11th ASEAN member state and the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia.

It was Malaysia’s fifth and largest time hosting the summit, which brought together ASEAN leaders and international dialogue partners, including United States President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva - who helms the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) grouping and South Africa's President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.
