INNOVATION KEY TO GOVERNANCE, PEOPLE’S WELL-BEING, SAYS SELANGOR MB

SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state administration has been urged to make innovation a work culture and mindset to ensure the continued well-being of the people and sustainable state development.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that fostering a culture of innovation is no longer an option, but an essential requirement to ensure that the government’s administrative system remains resilient and adaptable to changing times and technologies.

“Innovation does not necessarily begin with new tools or technologies. It can start with efforts to improve people’s lives through smart, creative ideas that can solve workplace challenges and help the community.

“An innovation-based approach also enables every state department and agency to enhance the efficiency, speed, and relevance of public service delivery in line with current needs,” he said in his speech at the Selangor Innovation Appreciation Ceremony 2025 here today.

The event was also attended by State Islamic Affairs and Innovation Culture Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah and Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Amirudin said innovation not only plays a role in addressing local or departmental issues but also has the potential to generate economic growth and deliver direct benefits to the community.

He also called for the culture of innovation to be reflected in various forms, including policies, enactments, circulars, and daily communication practices within the state administration.

He added that the state government remains committed to continuing its public service transformation and reform agenda, including through the fiscal plan and state budget to be tabled soon.

“Innovation will be the main pillar in policy implementation and state development to ensure that Selangor remains the most dynamic, prosperous, and competitive state.

“In an increasingly technology-dependent world, we cannot reject change but must harness it for the well-being and prosperity of the people,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin also witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Selangor State Secretary’s Office (SUK) and the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), as well as the exchange of a letter of understanding between the SUK and Selgem Sdn Bhd.

The document exchange marks the beginning of collaboration to explore innovative opportunities through intellectual property protection for new innovations and the commercialisation of existing innovative products developed by the Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) under the state administration.
