KANGAR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Digital Utilisation and Technology Awards (DUTA) programme encourages school students to develop skills in modern technologies, including AI, drones, and programming, thereby strengthening their abilities in technology, innovation, and the arts, said Perlis education director Rose Aza Che Arifin.
He said DUTA is a key platform for cultivating students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), incorporating the arts and literature to nurture well-rounded, creative learners.
“The combination of STEM and arts is aimed at enabling students to create digital works that are both creative and relevant,” he told reporters after the presentation of awards at the state-level DUTA event at Dewan 2020 today.
The awards, including the Digital Storytelling Animation Award, Digital Teacher Icon, and Digital School Award, were presented by the deputy director-general of Education (School Operations Sector), Zainal Abas.
In conjunction with the programme organised by Perlis state education department, the Prints and Pixels Expo (PriPEx) 2025, held from Nov 3 to today, featured a wide range of educational technological exhibits, digital design projects, multimedia productions and demonstrations of innovative school applications across Perlis.
Rose Aza said that initiatives like these allow students to demonstrate their potential in creative technology, cultivate a digitally literate generation prepared for future challenges, and enable teachers to adopt more engaging, technologically relevant teaching methods.
He said Perlis’ dedication to the DUTA initiative has paid off, with the state’s Educational Technology Resources Sector winning the national championship for two consecutive years, in 2023 and 2024, a proud achievement that showcases the state’s ability to compete on a national level.
Meanwhile, Rose Aza announced that the new Perlis State Education Department building will be officially handed over by the contractor on Nov 12, with the official opening ceremony expected to be held in June next year to coincide with the birthday celebrations of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
“Following the handover, we will carry out a phased relocation, with full operations expected in the new building after Ramadan next year,” he added.
