1,102 TELECOMMUNICATION TOWERS IN KELANTAN REGULATED BY MCMC, ASSEMBLY TOLD

KOTA BHARU, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,102 licensed telecommunication towers in Kelantan are currently regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the state legislative assembly was told today.

Education, Higher Education, Green Technology, Digital and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said of the total, 990 towers are built on land while 112 are located on building rooftops.

He said the annual fee for a tower is RM2,750, which includes a tower or structure permit of RM2,000 and a business licence of RM750.

“The licence for using agricultural land for constructing a telecommunication tower is RM500 per year, while the fee for permission to use building land for such towers or structures is RM1,000 per year,” he said when replying to a question from Mohamad Nasriff Daud @ Daud Yatimee (PAS-Pengkalan Pasir).

He said state revenue from these fees is estimated at RM3,030,500 per year and is channelled to local authorities (PBT).

Meanwhile, Agriculture, Agro-Food Industry and Commodities Committee chairman Datuk Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail said the state government is continually working to attract young people into the agricultural sector as a viable source of new income.

He said the government actively disseminates information on various forms of assistance and incentives provided by both state and federal authorities, including start-up grants of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 for eligible applicants.
