PUTRAJAYA, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) views occupational safety and health (OSH) as a shared responsibility among government agencies, private companies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and remains a top priority for the country’s health agenda, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said every worker has the right to work and return home healthy and safe, free from injuries or diseases caused by the workplace.
“You have a crucial role in ensuring the protection of workers from injuries and illnesses. I stress that every worker deserves the right to be safeguarded at the workplace, which is the core of OSH,” he said at the 43rd Occupational Safety and Health Award (MSOSH) ceremony held today .
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) president, Datuk Dr Adnan Mat.
Dr Dzulkefly added that investing in occupational safety and health is not only a legal obligation but also a key factor in determining the productivity and competitiveness of an organisation.
“Workplace safety is both a moral responsibility and a legal requirement, and it aligns with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principles of environmental, social, and governance (ESG),” he said.
In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), he also noted that technological advancements introduce new risks for workers, and safety practices must evolve to meet these challenges.
“We need to shift from the 'report and react' model to a proactive approach that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to predict and mitigate risks,” he said.
The MSOSH Award, organised by the Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Association, recognises organisations and individuals who excel in promoting occupational safety and health practices across Malaysia.
Since its introduction in 1982, the MSOSH Award has not only been a competition but also a journey towards fostering a culture of safe and healthy workplaces throughout the nation.
Dr Dzulkefly also presented the Occupational Safety and Health Icon Award to Shamsul Azri during the event.
