15/11/2025 09:24 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Grateful and deeply moved. That was the sentiment of fire victims in Kampung Petagas in Putatan near here when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim personally came to deliver immediate assistance following the incident that destroyed their homes early yesterday morning.

Khairul Zulfadli Patin, 38, a mechanic, said the assistance provided some relief as it helped ease their burden and supported them in continuing their daily affairs.

“Thank you to the Prime Minister for providing aid quickly and promptly. Alhamdulillah, this assistance helps to lessen our burden,” he told Bernama.

Khairul Zulfadli, his wife and their child were among the fire victims who have been sheltering at the temporary relief centre at the Petagas Secondary School multipurpose hall since yesterday.

He said the cash assistance he received would be used to find a rented home.

Recounting the fire that destroyed three houses, Khairul Zulfadli said the incident occurred on Friday morning when he and his family were not at home.

“None of our belongings could be saved; the house was completely destroyed,” he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister spent time meeting the affected fire victims while surveying the scene of the incident. He also received a briefing from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) officers regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, in a post on his Facebook page, said that during his visit to Kota Kinabalu, he took the opportunity to meet residents of Kampung Petagas who were recently affected by a fire and instructed that immediate assistance be delivered.

“I also visited residents in Kampung Duvanson, Putatan who are facing health problems. May they be granted resilience and strength in facing this test,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the government will continue to ensure the welfare of the people in Sabah is protected, adding that this is evident through the development allocation for Sabah under Budget 2026, which has been increased to nearly RM17 billion -- the highest compared to other states.
