KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The mission to bring home Malaysian haj pilgrim Asmah Mansor, 71, who is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Saudi German Hospital in Makkah for pneumonia, has begun following the successful collection of sufficient funds to cover the costs.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said that, as of 11 am, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia’s (JAKIM) Musa’adah Fund and the Malaysian Waqf Foundation had successfully collected RM372,222.66, and the donation drive was immediately closed thereafter.

He said Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) will cover the remaining amount needed for the mission.

“I have directed Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) to immediately manage all processes required to bring back Hajjah Asmah as soon as possible, in accordance with established procedures, and to work closely with the Saudi authorities and the Malaysian Embassy in Saudi Arabia,” he said in a Facebook post.

Mohd Na’im also expressed his deepest appreciation and gratitude to all Malaysians, corporate bodies, organisations and philanthropists who stepped forward to contribute within such a short period of time.

He said that the unity and kindness of Malaysians have translated the spirit of unity of Malaysia MADANI.

“May Allah SWT repay all the kindness of the donors with manifold rewards, and facilitate the efforts to bring back the last haj pilgrim of 1446H who are still in the hospital in Makkah,” he said.

On Nov 12, Mohd Na'im reportedly said that about RM500,000 was needed to bring home Asmah, who had been diagnosed with pneumonia and had been receiving treatment at the Saudi German Hospital since Sept 13.
