KDEBWM TO REMAIN LEADING PLAYER IN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ECOSYSTEM - EXCO

18/11/2025 06:41 PM

SHAH ALAM, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government has assured that KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) will continue to be a leading player in the solid waste management ecosystem should the state adopt the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).

State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim stated that while the implementation of Act 672 is expected to restructure the solid waste management framework under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), KDEBWM will continue to have equal and competitive opportunities to maintain its leading role in the sector.

“If Act 672 is enacted, KDEBWM’s function as a Project Management Company (PMC) under the mandate of local authorities may no longer apply.

“However, as a state-owned subsidiary with extensive experience and strong capabilities in operations management, logistics and green technology innovation, KDEBWM has significant potential to secure new service contracts through the Request for Proposal (RFP) process or open tenders conducted by SWCorp, subject to federal government procurement procedures,” he said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

He was responding to an oral question from Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Sijangkang), who sought assurance on KDEBWM’s position as a leading waste management player in Selangor under the compliance of Act 672.

Ng said that KDEBWM’s stellar performance in enhancing solid waste collection and public cleansing services across all local authorities provides a strong foundation for the company to remain competitive and be recognised as a key strategic partner in the nation’s waste management ecosystem.

“In this regard, KDEBWM, as a wholly state-owned company, will continue to receive due consideration at every level of decision-making,” he added.
