KOTA KINABALU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government will introduce a new enactment to streamline property transactions and land management if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is given the mandate to form the state administration again after the 17th Sabah state election, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.
Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the move is necessary to address technical hurdles that often delay land dealings and property ownership transfers.
“Several existing regulations have been in use for too long and are no longer suitable, so they need to be revised to speed up dealings between buyers, landowners and relevant agencies.
“Sometimes the existing enactments are no longer appropriate because they have been around for decades. So we need to revise them to make it easier for buyers and landowners in managing their properties,” he said.
He told reporters this after witnessing the handover of 1Borneo subsidiary titles to United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) by the State Lands and Surveys Department at Menara Kinabalu here today.
Earlier in his speech, Hajiji expressed gratitude that the long-awaited distribution of 1,974 subsidiary titles for shop units and residences at 1Borneo could finally be completed.
He said the handover demonstrates the GRS government’s commitment to expediting the issuance of strata titles, despite some remaining technical constraints that still need to be addressed.
“It clearly shows that the government, through the Lands and Surveys Department, has done its best to assist USIA as well as property owners and buyers at 1Borneo,” he said.
He said this development also reflects the state government’s continued commitment to resolving land and property-related matters, including proposing a new enactment to further ease dealings between developers and owners.
1Borneo Hypermall comprises four residential blocks with 910 strata titles, 21 titles for 2,300 covered parking bays, and 1,043 commercial titles, including four hotels with 929 rooms.
