CHUKAI, Nov 20 (Bernama) – Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Berhad (EPIC Berhad) handed over zakat contributions amounting to RM34,000 to 100 recipients through its Zakat Distribution Programme.
EPIC Berhad Group chief executive officer Dr Muhtar Suhaili said the zakat distribution was part of the returns from the employer ‘wakalah’ or scheduled zakat deductions totalling RM68,529, which were returned to EPIC Berhad by the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM).
“Today, EPIC Berhad is implementing a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative through the Zakat Distribution Programme to support the local community and strengthen social well-being,” he said at a press conference following the Zakat Distribution Programme with MAIDAM at the EPIC Kemaman Multipurpose Hall here today.
The zakat distribution session was officiated by Muhtar and EPIC Berhad Group chief financial officer Wan Mohd Azilah Wan Abdullah, and was witnessed by MAIDAM CEO Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan.
Muhtar said that the recipients included 80 individuals from the underprivileged group and 20 students pursuing their studies.
“The breakdown reflects the programme’s focus on assisting vulnerable communities with basic needs while supporting the continuity of education as a pillar of long-term social development,” he said.
Muhtar added that EPIC Berhad’s programme with MAIDAM was a continuous effort to foster a culture of care and support for those in need through a structured and impactful approach.
“As a state-linked company, we are committed to channelling contributions that add value to society.
“Our commitment is not only to generate profits but also to ensure the company’s benefits are shared with the community, particularly the vulnerable groups in Terengganu,” he said.
