DEFENCE MINISTRY READY TO ASSIST THAILAND IF NEEDED - KHALED NORDIN

23/11/2025 10:58 PM

TAWAU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Defence is prepared to assist Thailand in handling the flood disaster in its southern region, should the need arise, said Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

However, Mohamed Khaled expressed confidence that, like Malaysia, Thailand has the capacity to manage flood crises effectively.

“Like Malaysia, we do not immediately seek assistance from other countries. But if there is a need, particularly concerning the floods in Hatyai, we will discuss the matter.

“We cannot intervene without prior coordination," he told reporters after officiating at the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Family Day Carnival at Kubota Camp here today.

According to media reports, around 4,000 Malaysians in Hatyai and the surrounding areas were affected by the floods, although all were reported to be safe.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry advised Malaysians in Hatyai and nearby areas to stay indoors where possible, follow local authorities’ guidance, and remain cautious in flood-affected zones.

Malaysians who have yet to register with the Consulate General in Songkhla or the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok have been urged to do so.
