RESIDENTS IN FLOOD-PRONE AREAS MUST REMAIN VIGILIANT, PRIORITISE SAFETY - DPM AHMAD ZAHID

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Residents in flood-prone areas have been reminded to prioritise safety and to be vigilant following the Malaysian Meteorological Department’s (MetMalaysia) warning of continuous rain in several states from Nov 25 to 26.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded residents at risk in areas in Perak, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Pahang to always informed of the latest developments.

“Avoid flood areas, swift currents and overflowing rivers. If instructed to evacuate, comply immediately for your personal safety and that of your family. Let us pray to be protected from all disasters,” he posted on X today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is Central Disaster Management Committee chairman, provided assurances that related agencies were preparing themselves and would monitor the situation.

The MetMalaysia’s danger level warning for continuous rain covers areas in Kedah (Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak) and Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok dan Pasir Puteh) till Nov 25.

Its severe level warning for continuous rain till Nov 25 involves areas in Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Selangor (Sabak Bernam), Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang and Kuala Krai) and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu Marang and Dungun).

The department also issued an alert level warning for continuous rain till tomorrow for Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lips, Raub, Bentong and Temerloh) and Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor dan Gombak), while for Gua Musang in Kelantan and Kemaman in Terengganu, the warning will last till Nov 26.
