KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- The flood situation nationwide this morning shows no significant change compared to yesterday, with the number of victims in Kelantan slightly decreasing, while five other states — Perlis, Terengganu, Perak, Kedah and Selangor — continue to record increases.
In KELANTAN, the number of evacuees dropped slightly to 10,950 people from 4,111 families this morning, compared to 11,120 last night.
The State Disaster Management Secretariat said 66 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened following floods in nine districts in the state.
The district with the highest number of victims is Tumpat, with 4,427 evacuees from 1,721 families, followed by Bachok with 2,047 victims (731 families) and Kota Bharu with 2,447 victims (936 families).
According to Infopublic Banjir of the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Sungai Galas in Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang, have exceeded the danger level, while Sungai Kusial in Kusial Baru, Tanah Merah, is at alert level and Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai has exceeded the warning level.
In PERLIS, the number of flood victims continues to rise to 7,501 people with the addition of three more PPS as of this morning, compared to 6,627 victims housed in 21 PPS last night.
According to data from the Perlis State Disaster Management Secretariat, as of 8 am today, all flood victims have been relocated to 24 PPSs covering the Padang Besar, Arau, and Kangar areas.
In TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims has also increased to 3,483 people from 1,131 families as of 8 am today, compared to 3,233 people from 1,050 families last night.
Based on InfoBencana of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Kemaman is the latest district to be hit by floods, with eight victims from two families relocating to three PPS early this morning.
According to publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, river levels at Kampung Langkap (F1) and Sungai Setiu at the Permaisuri Bridge in Setiu have exceeded the danger level this morning.
In PERAK, the number of flood victims in eight districts continues to rise this morning, recording 5,620 victims from 1,746 families taking shelter in 46 PPS, compared to 5,424 people from 1,686 families last night.
The eight affected districts are Manjung, Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, Bagan Datuk, Kuala Kangsar, Larut Matang and Selama, Muallim, and Batang Padang.
In KEDAH, the number of victims also increased to 4,306 people from 1,453 families as of 8 am today, compared to 4,142 people from 1,414 families last night.
According to the Kedah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), all victims from Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena are housed in 23 PPS.
The Public Banjir official website reported that six rivers in Kedah have exceeded the danger level — Sungai Anak Bukit at 3.56 metres (m); Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas (4.8m); Sungai Bata (10.984m); Sungai Padang Terap in Pelubang (8.989m); Kampung Padang Pasir (22.306m); and Sungai Baru (2.089m).
In SELANGOR, 2,460 victims from 642 families remain sheltered at PPS, a slight increase from 2,359 people from 612 families yesterday evening.
Fifteen PPS are still operating across four districts — Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Klang.
In PAHANG, the number of flood victims remains at 19 people from eight families, all housed at the PPS in Dewan Serbaguna Dato Omar, Kuala Medang, Lipis.
