JAWI INVESTIGATING CASE OF LOCAL INDIVIDUALS ARRESTED AT HEALTH CLUB - MOHD NA’IM

30/11/2025 07:10 PM

SEPANG,  Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) is still investigating more than 100 local individuals who were arrested during a raid at a health club, believed to have been used for immoral activities, in the federal capital last Friday.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, said the investigation was being carried out under Section 25 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 for sodomy and Section 47 of the same law for an attempt to commit any offence under the Act.

"So from JAWI's side, the investigation is still ongoing," he told reporters after closing the Haj, Umrah and Tourism Carnival of the Haj Handlers (PJH) for the 1447H/2026M season here today.

He said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and JAWI will intensify their da'wah efforts and provide clear explanations on deviant practices that contradict Islamic teachings and MADANI values.

“This (perverted) act is unacceptable...not only legally, but even more so from a religious standpoint,” he said.

Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said that 171 local individuals arrested during a raid at the health club were released after the court rejected the police application for remand.

They were held for investigations under Section 377 (unnatural sexual intercourse) and Section 372 (exploitation of prostitution) of the Penal Code, but none of them admitted to being a victim.

According to Fadil, since none of them confessed to being a victim, the case cannot continue.

They were among 208 people arrested by the police during the raid at the health club in Chow Kit, suspected of hosting homosexual activities.

During the raid, police confiscated condoms and other items believed to be used for immoral purposes.
