JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Johor is strengthening its flood preparedness by increasing regular monitoring of low-lying areas and riverbanks, as well as deploying assets to strategic locations.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said coordination has been conducted with security agencies to ensure swift action can be taken in case water levels rise or hazardous sea conditions develop.
He said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued weather updates, warning of continuous rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas expected in several parts of the country, including affected waters in the state.
He said, according to the latest reports, continuous rain is forecast for Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru from Dec 7 to 8.
"Meanwhile, first-category strong winds are anticipated in the eastern waters of Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Tioman, and surrounding areas, with wave heights between 2.5 and 3.5 metres," he said in a Facebook post.
He urged the public to remain vigilant to weather and sea conditions, avoid recreational activities at beaches and coastal waters, and follow directives issued by the authorities for their safety.
The public is encouraged to stay informed through the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and MetMalaysia.
