PUTRAJAYA, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The public is reminded to make early preparations and remain vigilant in facing the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), following a continuous rain warning expected to persist until Dec 8 in several states.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that as of this morning, the Cabinet was informed that the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) had dropped to 3,147 people, while four PPS had been closed, leaving 49 still in operation.
“For preparations to face the MTL, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof provided a briefing on the National Disaster Management Agency’s (NADMA) readiness, including the need to enhance preparedness measures.
“The public is reminded to stay informed and make appropriate plans to face the MTL, especially over the next few days,” he told the media after attending the national-level International Anti-Corruption Day celebration here today.
Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contact Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto later this evening to discuss possible assistance Malaysia can extend to the neighbouring country, besides conveying condolences to the families of victims of the floods and landslide in Sumatra.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a continuous rain warning at the alert level, expected to affect several states in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sarawak and Sabah from Dec 5 to 8.
