TERRITORIAL ARMY A KEY PILLAR OF PERLIS' DEFENCE DURING FLOODS

PADANG BESAR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The efficiency of the Territorial Army volunteers in responding to the floods in Perlis shows that they are not just a support unit, but a key pillar of the state’s defence, always ready to face security threats and natural disasters.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said he witnessed the courage, discipline and high level of preparedness of the reserve force, including local volunteer soldiers who stepped forward to help without hesitation during the disaster.

“Recently, our state was once again tested by floods. During the disaster, I saw the courage, discipline and readiness of our security personnel, public agencies, the private sector and ordinary citizens who did not hesitate to help,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said this when officiating the Jiwa Murni programme held in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of the 504th Territorial Regiment at the Gua Kelam Recreational Park, near here, today.

He added that the members possess not only physical strength, but also sharp minds, strong moral values and unwavering loyalty, making them a trusted line of defence for the people.

“I am confident that as long as this spirit is preserved, Perlis will remain strong regardless of the challenges it faces,” he said.

He emphasised that the state’s true strength does not lie solely in its assets or infrastructure, but in the spirit and determination of its people.

“As long as the people remain united, help one another and honour each other, this state will continue to stand firm despite any challenge, whether floods, economic crises, or climate change,” he said.

On the Jiwa Murni programme, he said its implementation reflects strong synergy between the government, security agencies, the private sector and the people through a Whole of Government, Whole of Society (WOGOS) approach.

“When the entire state machinery moves as a harmonious team, it creates extraordinary strength capable of elevating Perlis into a dynamic, resilient and competitive state,” he added.
