KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The World #QuranConvention 2025 kicked off today, calling on Muslim leaders and communities to translate Quranic principles into actionable strategies for social and economic development.
In his keynote address at the event, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the teachings of the Quran not only shape individual faith but also serve as a practical blueprint for policymaking, economic planning, and strategic action to address contemporary challenges.
"The Quran is not a text to be admired from afar, but a living source of guidance shaping our economies, institutions and the future of our societies," he said here today.
Amirudin shared that certain Quranic verses have guided his approach to leadership, allowing him to focus on patience, integrity and shared responsibility, while some verses highlight disciplined action, teamwork and aligning initiatives with ethical and moral principles.
“At its core, it is a moral framework that protects the vulnerable, promotes fair wealth distribution, rejects exploitation and upholds dignity, transparency and accountability,” he said, adding that no one should be left behind because of poverty or marginalisation.
Amirudin also cited Selangor as an example of putting these principles into practice, where the state has rolled out programmes to empower small entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, improve access to financing and provide training and support to help families achieve sustainable livelihoods.
"Among the many efforts we have pursued, halal governance stands out as one of the most visible examples of how Quranic values can be translated into policy and system.
“For more than half a century, Selangor has worked to institutionalise halal supervision, treating it as a shared amanah (responsibility) between government, industry, and community,” he said, adding that Selangor is now home to one of the most active halal ecosystems in Malaysia.
The World #QuranConvention 2025 emphasised the importance of Surah Al-Saff in shaping global economic development solutions guided by the Quran's teachings.
The two-day programme also features top speakers, including Bayyinah Institute founder Nouman Ali Khan, Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief content officer Fazrul Ismail, Oxford Intellect chief executive Dr Imran Alvi and many more.
In line with the event, the World #QuranConvention 2025 also introduced the #Saff12Movement, a comprehensive framework that reorganises the roles of the ummah across twelve major social and economic sectors to turn the message of Surah Al-Saff from reflection into structured action and long-term collaboration.
