MELP ENERGY HUNT 2025 BOOSTS ENERGY LITERACY THROUGH INTERACTIVE CHALLENGES

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The MELP Energy Hunt 2025 drew 120 participants across 30 teams, demonstrating the public’s growing interest in enhancing their understanding of energy issues.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Energy Literacy Programme (MELP) said the event was organised to raise awareness of the importance of energy efficiency and renewable energy, while encouraging interactive and fun learning on energy and environmental sustainability.

“This initiative also aims to foster a culture of smart energy use within communities and strengthen MELP’s engagement with the public through energy education programmes,” said MELP, which is a platform for energy education and awareness.

This year’s edition also marked its first collaboration with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Independent Power Utilities (IPUs) in three categories: MELP Special, university students, and the media, which included participation from media representatives, bloggers, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) who help amplify energy literacy messages.

MELP said the creativity and digital reach of these groups are central to sustaining energy awareness campaigns through visual content, photos, and videos that are more accessible to the public.

Participants were flagged off at the main lobby of Plaza Sentral and went through physical and mental challenges at several locations, including Petrosains KLCC (Energy Transition Mission), River of Life (Watt’s the Limit & Kuasa Perkasa), Walk A Hunt from the River of Life to Masjid Jamek, and ending at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur Hotel.

Among the challenges were identifying household waste types to promote low-carbon living, solving a puzzle on the transition from petrol to electric vehicles, and learning ways to save electricity through the Smart Home Zone.

Participants also had to answer questions on energy and energy management safety, complete Walk A Hunt tasks themed ‘Clean Energy’ at the River of Life and Masjid Jamek, and carry out social media assignments involving photos and videos based on specific locations and themes.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, in his welcoming remarks, said the encouraging participation reflects a shared commitment to strengthening energy literacy in Malaysia.

“This programme seeks to achieve several key objectives, from raising awareness about energy efficiency and renewable energy, to promoting interactive, enjoyable ways of learning about energy and sustainability.

“I hope it will also enhance cooperation between government agencies and the industry,” he added.
