387 SJKTS RECEIVE SMARTBOARDS BEFORE SCHOOL SESSION BEGINS - RAMANAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- A total of 387 Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) will receive 400 smartboards involving an allocation of RM5 million before the next school term that begins on Jan 10, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan said.

He said the schools were chosen based on data from the Education Ministry’s Asset Management Division, with each school with 800 pupils or lower receiving one unit, and schools with more than 800 pupils receiving two under the initiative, carried out through the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA).

“This initiative is another commitment by the government to strengthen the SJKT education ecosystem, especially through the provision of modern facilities to schools so that pupils are not left behind in the national digitalisation wave in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations.

“With this facility, schools are also empowered to be digital learning hubs, places where children hone skills like critical thinking, creativity and technology competencies,” he told reporters after the launch of the initiative at SJKT Vivekananda, Brickfields here today, in the presence of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and her deputy, Wong Kah Woh.

Besides the smartboard initiative, the government has previously approved RM12.8 million to upgrade equipment, furniture and provide maintenance for 305 Tamil primary schools, RM8 million for the MADANI Kalvi Free Tuition programme for Indian B40 families and RM7.87 million for the Private Kindergarten Early Education Subsidy.

“Through these initiatives, MITRA has allocated RM33.67 million of one-third of its allocation for early and primary education for Indian pupils this year,” he said.
