FLOOD VICTIMS IN PERAK DECREASE, ANOTHER PPS CLOSED

IPOH, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Perak is showing signs of recovery with the number of victims at relief centres (PPS) continuing to decline.

According to the Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, as of this evening, 202 victims from 62 families are still at four PPS in two districts, a decrease compared to 411 victims from 122 families this morning.

A PPS at the Bagan Datuk Youth and Sports Community Hall, which previously housed 142 victims from 45 families, was closed at 4 pm today.

Currently, only four PPS are still operating, two each in the Hilir Perak and Manjung districts.

In Hilir Perak, the PPS are at the Kampung Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall and the Hilir Perak IPD Multipurpose Hall, while in Manjung, they are at Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai and SK Kayan, Lekir.

In SARAWAK, three more PPS were opened in northern Sarawak, bringing the total number of PPS operating in the state to four, accommodating 130 victims as of 6 pm today.

According to the Sarawak JPBN Secretariat, the PPS at the Red Crescent Hall in Miri was opened at 10 am today to accommodate 29 victims from five families from Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu.

Two more PPS, which were opened about 2 pm, are in the Subis district. They are at SK Kampung Angus, with 11 victims from two families, and a total of 34 people from 11 families at the PPS at Sekolah Menangah Kebangsaan Suai Niah.

Meanwhile, 56 victims from 14 families in Kampung Kemunting and Rumah Panjang Roslind in Bintulu were evacuated to the PPS at the Bintulu Suarah Hall.
